It is a new world of marketing, and some industries are still catching up with the 21st century. In the arts There have been, and are, traditional forms of advertising and marketing such as Industry specific journals, Artistic Management (agents) and, of course, classic networking.

But as more and more people are using the internet, more and more industries are adopting its power, for example jeaninethames.com.

Jeanine is a marvelous soprano, but she didn’t have a web site. Sure, her agent has a web site for her, but it’s very basic. By having her own domain, Ms. Thames becomes easier to find, and she has control over how she wishes to present herself.

The site is really quite simple. It’s designed to be an on-line brochure for anyone, hiring agent or fan, who wants to know more about her. It includes biographical information, a Repertoire list and a photo gallery.

Originally this site utilized CSS for its main navigation. Although I prefer to use plain text for navigation, Ms. Thames’ site really needed more eye-candy, so, I utilized fast Rollovers with PHP and CSS. I first read about this at A List Apart.

The technique not only allows for cool looking, faster loading, image-based navigation; it is also XHTML compliant. I liked the technique so much that I’ve implemented it on most of my websites—including this one.
